One call from Delhi and...Simha stopped roaring

2 min read

For two days running, the sitting BJP MP of Mysuru-Kodagu constituency Pratap Simha roared at Yaduveeer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the Mysore royal, after the BJP named him as its candidate for the Mysore seat.

But it took just one call from Union Home Minister Amit Shah  for Simha to pipe down, and not only issue a statement supporting the candidature of Yaduveeer but oozing with good advice on how it was time to hit the streets!

Simha's discomfiture wasn't too hard to fathom. He had fought and won both the  2014 and 2019 parliamentary polls.  As soon as he got a whiff that he was going to be dumped in favour of Yaduveer, he pushed his fans, out on the streets, staged rastarokos, bike rallies and the poster campaigns. He indirectly attacked Yaduveer saying that he would have to step out  of his air-conditioned chamber and go to streets to tackle the people's woes on clogged drains and uncleared garbage. His friends took to  social media mocking Yaduveer the king who would have to turn minister.

Yaduveer in marked contrast, stayed silent. But a day after the Mysore street protests, the one call from Delhi, put paid to Simha's rebellion. He's now posted a tweet on X account congratulating the Mysore scion!

Why Simha lost out on a ticket

One of the main reasons that Simha didn't get a ticket was his running battle with  local BJP legislators. He embarrassed the former Krishna Raja MLA, S.A.Ramdas by poking fun at the domes built  on top of  bus shelters, saying he was soft on Muslims and forcing him to change the very design of the bus shelters.

Similarly, his pinpricks against the former MLA of Chamaraja constituency, L.Nagendra,  antagonised all the local workers. His tall claims over building the Mysuru-Bengaluru Expressway even though only six to eight km falls under his constituency, upset the opposition as much as his own party workers, and put paid to his chances at getting a ticket for the third time.
