With knighthood came controversy for billionaire, philanthropist and telecom tycoon Sunil Bharti Mittal as it was reported that the Bharti Airtel flagship owner would become the first Indian to be knighted, until it was pointed out that there had been three previous recipients - Ratan Tata, Pandit Ravi Shankar and Dr Jamshed Irani - all of whom had been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
