Breaking with the traditions of his royal family, Yaduveeer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, the BJP candidate from Mysuru-kodagu Lok Sabha constituency, did the unthinkable! He walked down to a cafe near Kukkarahalli Lake Road in Saraswathi Puram in Mysuru and sat down with a group of BJP workers and shared a cup of coffee with them!
Being a member of the royal family, Yaduveeer has always had to strictly follow the rules . He is not supposed to eat or drink outside. Even at home, he would be served coffee or tea in a silver glass. The reason behind the ban.on eating outside is to avoid food poisoning, intentional or otherwise, as it was a common practise to get rid of rivals in days past.
Saying good bye to those traditions, Yaduveeer, after visiting the BJP office, for the first time after being named as the BJP candidate for the Mysuru seat, stopped at Hotel Ramya in Saraswathi Puram and sat just as any ordinary person would, with fellow party workers and drank coffee. This hotel had been a very popular joint of politicians once upon a time. The former CM S.Bangarappa would visit this cafe which was previously situated near the University of Mysore and tuck in to the hot and crispy Masala dosa, Bonda sambar and a cup of filter coffee that too after playing the shuttle badminton for one hour.
The BJP workers were little hesitant to have a free wheeling chat with Yaduveeer as he belongs to the great Wadiyar Dynasty of Mysuru, but he was freely talking with everyone. The hotel staff were surprised to see the 'royal' visitor at their premises.
Earlier, the BJP candidate went to the house of former minister SA Ramdas in Vidyaranypuram where he was given the ‘poorna kumbha swagath. ‘Hundreds of workers raised slogans and burst crackers. The workers held the traditional umbrella overv Yaduveeer in a tradition and honour normally accorded Maharajas of yore. A few of them even touched his feet and took his blessings.
