The ruling Congress Party is falling back on a tried and tested strategy which it had used in the last year's Assembly polls in the coming parliamentary polls to counter the perceived ‘Modi wave’ in the upcoming parliamentary polls.
In the 2023 assembly election, the Congress party had won a whopping 135 seats of the total 224 Assembly seats. Buoyed by that response, the ruling party has decided to forge ahead this time too, with the strategy of categorising all the 28 Lok Sabha seats on the basis of winnability, along with the promise of five guarantees which is believed to have helped the party in the Assembly polls.
The 28 Lok Sabha constituencies are categorised as A,B and C depending upon the strength of the following in the constituency. The 'A' category seats are those which are the sure seats, the 'B' category seats are those which are seen as having a 50:50 chance of winning and the 'C' category seats are those which are difficult to win.
The sources in KPCC told this reporter that of the total 28 seats around 8-10 seats are in the ‘A‘ category, around a dozen seats are in the ‘B’ category and the rest are in the ‘C’ category.
For instance, Dharwad North, Haveri-Gadag, Davangere, Mangaluru, Udupi -Chikmagalur, Bengaluru South, Bengaluru North and Belagavi are the sure seats for the BJP and where the Congress Party is weak. Compared to that Bengaluru Rural, Chamarajanagar, Raichur, Kalaburgi, Ballari, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Bidar are some of the sure seats for the Congress although it had lost them in the 2019 parliamentary polls due to the pro-Modi wave across the nation.
In the previous parliamentary polls, the then ruling BJP had won 25 seats, one each for the Janata Dal Secular, Congress Party and an Independent. This kind of sweep in the parliamentary polls by the saffron party was never witnessed in the past.
Not ready to take its saffron opponent lightly, the ruling Congress government has empowered all the 31 ministers, giving them the task of ensuring the victory of the Congress candidates in their respective districts and also to take care of the expenses such as the public meetings, house to house campaign and other modes of campaign.
The ministers must camp in their respective districts from the beginning of the campaign till the day of polling. They must also take care of the star campainers in the constituency. Each minister must work in tandem with the local leaders and carry on poll related works without showing any dereliction of duty.
The sources pointed out that their main task was to make the people aware of the benefits of five guarantees along with the failure of the BJP led NDA Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last one decade. The Congress Party has to step up to counter the so-called popularity of the PM Modi. The ruling party has no choice but to work as a united team and try to win as many seats as possible to unseat the Modi Government, sources said.
