It has been decided that former chief minister and Janata Dal Secular leader H.D.Kumaraswamy will contest as the NDA candidate from the high -voltage Mandya Lok Sabha constituency which would go to polls along with another 13 constituencies in the first phase of polling to be held on April 26.
The sitting MP from Hassan, Prajwal Revanna will seek re-election from Hassan and Mahesh Babu from the Kolar Lok Sabha constituency.
However, an official announcement in this regard would be made tomorrow ( Wednesday) in the presence of senior leaders.
In fact, there has been talk of fielding either former MLA of Melkote C.S.Puttaraju or Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of Kumaraswamy.
But the Mandya JDS leaders wanted 'Kumaranna' to contest from Mandya to take revenge against the Congress party for paying the double-game in the 2019 Lok Sabha election in which Sumalatha Ambareesh, wife of cine actor turned politician, M.H.Ambareesh, won by a big margin as an independent candidate, as the Congress party declined to give her a ticket.
In this election, the Congress party has fielded Star Chandru aka Chandrashekhar Gowda, a close relative of former MP of Chikballapur, B.N.Bache Gowda, who has already kicked off the campaign in the district.
Kumaraswamy was in two minds on contesting in the parliamentary poll due to pressure from the party workers of Chennapatna not to leave the constituency. They opined that party would lose its base in the district if he gets elected to the Lok Sabha.
So, they wanted to field either Nikhil or Puttaraju from Mandya to which Kumaraswamy disagreed.
He explained to the JDS leaders under what circumstances he was contesting the LS polls. After much persuasion , they agreed to let Kumaraswamy contest from Mandya.
