Even as there has been a buzz about Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K.Shivakumar at loggerheads over the selection of candidates for the parliamentary polls to be held in two phases on April 26 and May 7, a survey has indicated that the ruling Congress Party could get 15-16 seats of the total 28 seats due to confrontation within BJP on naming of candidates for 21 seats.
Reliable sources told this reporter that this sudden rise in the hopes of bagging more seats was due to internal squabble in the saffron party.
The information about winning around 15 seats is said to have been received during a recent survey that the Congress party conducted after the ticket fiasco in BJP. Till recently, a number of surveys had reportedly indicated that the Congress party may only win a maximum of six to eight seats in the parliamentary polls due to Modi wave.
But things changed after the first list of candidates for the 21 seats was released which uncapped dissatisfaction and dissidence within the BJP. The open attack on the veteran BJP leader, B.S.Yediyurappa by former minister K.S.Eshwarappa, D.V.Sadananda Gowda, Karadi Sanganna and others have some what impacted the saffron party and the extent of damage would be known on June 4.
Based on this survey report, CM Siddaramaiah exuded confidence that his party has the chances to win 20 seats if everyone works as a team. He claimed that the surveys had been very positive for the Congress and that would indicate people's trust in the party.
For a change, the ruling Congress party has maintained its unity in this election and is trying to contain any rebellion as much as possible to avoid it's repercussion in the election.
The party, in order to know the pulse of the people after the BJP began washing its dirty linen in public, and to know if it would benefit the ruling party, is said to have engaged some agencies for the sample survey which shocked them.
According to the survey report, the Congress party has the chances to win around 15 seats if they continue to fight the election unitedly, and the BJP leaders continue to fight in public over the distribution of tickets blaming Yediyurappa and his son and State BJP President B.Y.Vijayendra.
The infighting in the BJP has proved advantageous for the Congress party to paint the BJP as 'Party with indifference'. Leaders like Eshwarappa’s attack on the grand old man of Shikaripura for showing favouritism to his sons, B.Y. Raghavendra, B.Y. Vijendra and Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje was bad enough The BJP infighting has come as a blessing for the Congress party.
There seems to be no discipline among the senior leaders and no fear of the high command. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been saying " Aab Ki bar, 400 par", the Karnataka BJP leaders were busy in settling scores in public.
The survey report has energised the Congress leaders who have decided to work hard to gift at least 15 seats to INDI Alliance from Karnataka. That would be possible as the BJP National leaders have so far, failed to intervene and discipline its leaders.
