Falling in line with the party diktat and abandoning his earlier stance, former BJP MLA Preetham Gowda announced on Monday that he would join the campaign for Prajwal Revanna, the NDA candidate from Hassan.
Hassan, along with 13 other constituencies in Karnataka, will go to the polls on April 26. The refusal by Preetham and his supporters to join the campaign had upset the JDS, revealing cracks in its alliance with the BJP.
Preetham had stayed away from the coordination meeting of BJP and JDS in Hassan, besides openly expressing his reservations about the sitting MP Prajwal, grandson of former prime minister H D Devegowda. He also skipped a meeting convened by the BJP General Secretary and incharge of Karnataka affairs Radha Mohan Agarwal.
Angered by his attitude, Devegowda had asked the Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President J P Nadda to address the issue.
In a relief to the JDS, Preetham said he would campaign for Prajwal from Tuesday and stressed that he didn't have animosity against the NDA candidate. He also ruled out he or his followers joining the Congress.
"Everything has been sorted out. I will happily campaign for Prajwal from Tuesday", he told reporters.
