Why a BJP worker attempted Self immolation in Raichur It’s a fight between the Raichur Nayaks

2 min read

In a sign that the BJP rank and file are not entirely happy with the distribution of tickets in this drought hit region, a person attempted self immolation by dousing himself with diesel as a protest against B.V.Nayak being denied a ticket for the Raichur Lok Sabha seat.

The BJP announced the ticket to the sitting MP Raja Amareshwara Nayak instead of B.B.Nayak who had won from this constituency in 2014 on the Congress symbol but subsequently joined the BJP.

It was learnt that state BJP leaders had promised him a ticket and based on that assurance he had toured all eight Assembly constituencies in advance. Nayak was in shock when the high command instead announced the ticket for Raja Amareshwara Nayak, deeply angering the party workers.

They waited till yesterday with the hopes of changing the candidate.

However, when there was no sign of it, B.V.Nayak convened a meeting of his followers in a private hotel to discuss the future course of action. Before the meeting, one of his followers doused himself with diesel but was prevented by others from setting himself on fire. They raised ‘go back Amareshwara Nayak‘ slogans and burnt tyres.

Later,  B B Nayak said he would wait for two more days and then do what his followers say. " I will go public with my decision when I’m  in Deodurga in one or two days'.

He said he had already completed one round of visit of the entire constituency as per the directions of the state BJP leaders.

He severed his 40 years of connection with the Congress party in which he and his father served.

“Now, the BJP leaders have cheated me. I will not sit and take orders. I will show my strength to the saffron party leaders " he said.
